Tabby Agent Recovery
Restores Codex and Claude Code conversations in Tabby panes after a restart. It saves the resume command with the exact session ID automatically; no separate launcher is required.

How it works
Tabby remembers windows and splits, but a regular pane opens a new shell after a restart. This plugin finds the agent running in that pane and saves codex resume <ID> or claude --resume <ID>. On the next launch, the agent opens the same conversation in its previous pane.
This starts a new process with saved history. It does not keep computing while the computer is off or automatically send a new task.
What is preserved
- The exact conversation, working directory and supported agent launch arguments.
- Tabby’s nested split layout, pane order, titles and proportions.
- Completed panes: they remain in the layout after their process exits.
- The last 20 startup layout snapshots and a current copy after saving.
Restored panes also start in background tabs. You do not need to activate each one; focus stays on the selected tab.
Support
Automatic discovery of running Codex and Claude Code sessions works on Linux. The plugin checks the processes belonging to that pane and local conversation metadata. On macOS and Windows, use a Tabby profile with an explicit resume command and session ID; automatic discovery is not available there yet.
If the ID cannot be identified, the plugin leaves Tabby’s normal behavior in place. It does not choose the “latest” conversation. A shared Codex daemon, a custom wrapper or unknown launch arguments can prevent session detection. Use an explicit resume profile in those cases.
Existing agent-sessions integration remains optional. When its launcher is available, the plugin saves the command for attaching to the managed session. Existing reconnect scripts are left as they are when the launcher is absent.
Privacy
The plugin does not send data over the network. By default, its additional snapshots omit terminal output and secret environment variables. Paths and launch commands are saved; files are created with 0600 permissions. Tabby’s own history settings apply separately.
Output recording can be enabled explicitly. See the privacy policy.
